Geek Prom

Posted by Jeremy on 13th May 2007

The geek prom was friggin awesome - there were some crazy costumes to be found and the ELO cover band, E.L.no, was excellent as well. I’ll post some pics later, all I gotta say is I know what my next shirt purchase is :)

And remember, the Fringe Festival is coming soon!

Theater, the market, Minneapolis

Posted by Jeremy on 8th May 2007

Yesterday I had my training to become a volunteer usher at the Guthrie Theater. It was an hour and a half long, and mainly consisted of the history of the theater itself, as well as where the Wuertle Thrust and McGuire Proscenium got their names from. I also learned a new bit of stage-speak. “Bomb” - that’s what they call those little ramps the go down from the stage, where the actors run up from.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to working there, the shifts are only 2-3 hours long, and I get credit though for what I’m not entirely sure yet - perhaps a membership, but I’m doing it just for the experience. So if you’re ever at the Guthrie, maybe to catch Major Barbara, be sure to look for me :)

Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis MN

This Saturday marks the season open of the Mill City Farmer’s Market. I have never been to this particular one, but it looks like it will be very interesting - it was started last year by Brenda Langton, the same Brenda that owns Cafe Brenda. It starts at 8am, so I think we’ll head down there to pick up some stuff, then maybe check out the Mill City Museum.

You know I’ve had a major thing with wanting to live in the Rossmor building in St. Paul, but I find myself increasingly more in the West Bank area in Minneapolis. That’s where all the good theaters are, Southern, Theater in the Round, Mixed Blood, the U of M Rarig, Guthrie, Theater De La Jeune Lune, and that’s just off the top of my head. That’s also where my photog hang out West Photo is. It’s where some of my friends live. So why don’t I just friggin move there? Good question - think I’ll start looking soon, since my lease is up in July.

Also, just for shits and grins, I’m going to make a new set at my Flickr site, and in it put ever non-consumable purchase I make for the next year. Every CD, Book, camera accessory, car, country I buy, I’m going to take a picture of and place the date, place of purchase, and cost. Maybe it’ll open my eyes up at the end of the year when I see just how much I spend on *shit*.

By the way, even though he’s published by Sony, Mason Jennings is friggin awesome.

Abzorbr, Geek Prom, and more!

Posted by Jeremy on 2nd May 2007

Ahhhh, Spring, what a wonderful time - and a time I get out of the house :)

Tomorrow - first up stopping at Cheapo (I’d give the link, but the site seems down) after work from a half dozen or so new CDs, then I’m heading over at the Nomad World Pub at 9 to see Abzorbr. I love their sound, as it’s described, it’s a mix of ‘hip hop and jazz’ and damn, is it just something to jam too.

Then, coming on May 12th, me and Mishka are going to the Geek Prom! I’m soooo stoked for this one - I plan on having a ton of pictures to show you - not sure what my ‘prom suit’ will be yet though.

I dig my new job some what. But really, I honestly dig the pay more.
